Here are the books I suggest for reading. If you
are a starting player or even an experienced one these books are
sure to only improve your game. Books are from varies authors including
David Sklansky, Lee Jones, TJ Cloutier, and Doyle Brunson.
Elements of Poker (Tommy Angelo): This book tackles mental discipline and "right thinking" for playing poker and for life. I think it is a necessary ingredient to any poker player's arsenal of mental tools for the game. I highly recommend it.
The
Theory of Poker (David Sklansky): Great book for
poker in general. basic concepts that can apply to any poker
game. A definite read if you are serious. In depth analysis
of poker play and how to extract and save the most money from
your opponents.
The Mathematics of Poker (Bill Chen): A very difficult read but has good information about how probability works within the game. It illustrates complex formulas and calculations explaining how hands and situations compare to each other.
The
Psychology of Poker (David Sklansky): Good insight
toward playing the player. Understand the player mind. Good
ideas to gain information on your opponents to exploit them.
Ace
on the River
(Barry Greenstein): This book concentrates on state
of being when playing poker with some analytical strategy. It
places you within the poker world and all the things you can
expect. If the Zen books did not help this one will. It approaches
the same issues with a more practical guide. Barry is truely
an example of what we all should aspire to be as a person and
as a poker player.
Inside
the Poker Mind (John Feeney Ph.D): Essays about
psychology, play, players, how they think, and how you should
think. This book goes well with Mike Caro's Book of Tells. Many
good suggestions and guides to help you with the non-technical
part of handling poker.
